(E/C) = Eye color

The next morning you woke up to a pleasant warmth. You nuzzled it contently as your drowsy mind slowly started to clear, a deep breath filling your lungs and a pleasant, comforting and familiar scent meeting your nostrils. The next thing you noticed were two strong arms firmly wrapped around you and a steady, quiet breathing. Finally, a soft but persistent headache. But still, you were so comfortable...

Reasoning finally awakening, your brain could put all the information together and you noticed there was someone else in the bed, holding you. You slowly opened your eyes, almost fearing what you would see when you did. Your eyes, widening in stupefaction as your breath got caught in your throat, met a familiar tattooed chest. Why were you sleeping together!? That's when you realized you just were wearing your underwear and totally freaked out, body tensing. You racked your brains in search of something that explained your current situation. You could remember going to the club, drinking, dancing... Law getting mad at some random guy... You blushed profusely remembering what happened next. You had kissed him. You kissed him! Your eyes widened in horror as you blankly stared at his chest, not really seeing it anymore. And then? You remembered going back home and trying to seduce him, apart from ruining his beloved hat... You couldn't remember anything else, but you begged he didn't give in to your pleas. God, how could you mess everything up so much? How could you act like that towards him? How embarrassing!

You carefully moved your head to look up at his sleeping face and tried to gradually escape his hold. You honestly didn't want to be there when he woke up. He had all the right in the world to be mad at you but you weren't ready to face him. Or maybe he wasn't mad but expected something from you you couldn't give him, if what you thought that happened actually happened. Both possibilities scared you, since they would lead to the same result: hurt his feelings again. However, he tightened his hold on you, forcing you back to your previous position.

"Go back to sleep." He quietly ordered, his eyes remaining closed. You tried to relax, deciding to obey. Maybe if you closed your eyes you could wait for him to get up and pretend you were sleeping. You truly had no idea how to face him at the moment. "Nothing happened yesterday. Relax and sleep." He said as if he could hear your agitated thoughts.

You almost sighed in relief. Nothing happened? Thank God... There was still something bugging you, though. "Law." You whispered. "Your 'southern friend' is greeting me and it's making me uncomfortable."

You saw as an amused smirk formed on his lips, eyes still closed. "You should be polite and greet him back, then. I'm sure that will make him happy; he likes you a lot." He suggestively purred.

As if confirming his last statement, you felt his friend poking you. "Tell him to behave or I won’t be held responsible for my actions." You threatened not really being serious, and he chuckled.

He finally opened his eyes and looked at you, the smirk still lingering in his attractive features. "How are you feeling?"

"Not too well. I have a headache." You replied.

"That's natural, you have a hangover. It seems to be a soft one, luckily." He hummed studying your face. "How is your stomach?"

"I think it's fine." There was a pause. "Thank you for taking care of me. You didn't have to." You mumbled meeting his eyes, and sighed. "I feel like I say this very often recently but... I'm sorry about yesterday. Very sorry." You added before he could reply.

"Don't be sorry. It wasn't your fault." He gently brushed a lock of (H/C) hair behind your ear.

"You go too soft on me..." Your eyes moved back to his chest, and you unconsciously neared your face to it.

"You're the one who's too hard on yourself. You should stop blaming yourself for every problem, you're hurting yourself with those lies." He softly whispered. "I know you blame yourself for your broken relationship, and I know you think it's your fault that Esther and I aren't together, as well as you feel guilty and even ashamed for feeling unable of returning my feelings. But none of them are your fault. Your ex messed everything up by himself. Esther is a grown woman and has decided she's not truly interested on me and I don't feel anything at all towards her. And you're going through a lot of things right now, it's natural that you find it hard to focus and understand your true feelings."

(E/C) met gold once again. He remembered the way your soft, plump lips felt against his, and he felt like kissing you. And for the way you were looking at him, he knew you would allow him if he tried. But it wasn't the time. You were feeling confused and vulnerable and he would never take advantage of you. You were too fragile at the moment, insisting over that matter would only disorient you further.

He sighed. "I'll bring you something light to eat."

His tender arms left your body as he sat up and left the bed, and you suddenly felt very cold, despite being still under the covers. He disappeared in the hallway, leaving you confused, hurting, and missing him.

You tapped on the screen to hang up your phone, Law's sleeping adorable face coming to sight afterwards. You smiled. You loved that picture. It always succeeded on cheering you up and Law just looked so cute...

You had been talking with Esther. She had called you to know how you were feeling, and after knowing you were okay, she had proceeded to tell you between laughs all the stupidities you had said and done last night. From what she told you and what you could remember, you were sure you had given poor Law a really hard time. Of course, she didn't know about the kiss you had shared.

You licked your lips. Oddly enough, the kiss was the moment of the night you remembered more clearly. It was etched on your mind. How he had kissed back, how his arms had held you, how his body had felt pressed against you, the soft sensation of his lips...

'You feel guilty and even ashamed for feeling unable of returning my feelings.' His words from that morning repeated in your mind.

Yes, you felt horrible for treating that way someone who had said and proved to love you, for keep hurting his feelings when you had done nothing to deserve them, for mistreating the heart of someone who had already suffered so much in the past. How could you be so horrible as to wound such sweet feelings? You felt selfish and miserable. But you knew trying to be something more with him was a bad idea. You still had feelings for your ex, it would be unfair if you started dating Law when your mind and heart was going to be with another person. Besides, there were too many chances of it going wrong. You didn't think it could work. He loved you but you didn't hold such feelings towards him, and once it was clear your relationship had nowhere to go, it would hurt him greatly and you would lose him forever. It would be wrong giving him a chance and raising his hopes up when you knew how it was going to end.

You left the phone on your bed and walked to the living room. Law was at the computer. He had taken the habit of checking the One Piece last manga chapter every week, and even if he would never admit it, you knew he liked spending time reading the fanfictions and looking the fanart people did about him (as long as certain topics weren't involved. He took good care on avoiding that kind of stuff). He had started using it to look for a job too. He had tried in some places already, but he hadn't found anything. Given his strange situation, nobody wanted to hire him.

You noticed he was watching a video, and approached him, looking at the screen. It seemed to be some kind of fanmade compilation about his life. He was watching his parents and sister at the moment. "You miss them, right?" You softly asked.

He nodded without taking his eyes off of the screen. "I never thought I would be able to listen to their voices and see their smiles ever again." He mumbled. He had lost them so fast, so suddenly... He didn't even have a place to go to visit them. The moment they left the world, they left it completely. All of them. He wished he could cross the screen just to hold them for one last time.

You leaned down to have a better view of the screen. "You have your father's messy hair, you look quite alike to him. But I can definitely see your mother in your eyes." You commented with a soft smile. You watched together some more minutes in silence. But when the scene where Cora-san told him he loved him took place you tensed, knowing what was coming next. And Law knew as well. You covered his eyes and paused the video, not wanting him to see it. "You shouldn't be watching this. It's not good for you to relive such moments."

He let out a dry chuckle. "Too late. I've seen these scenes countless times already. The destruction of my home town too." He said very lowly. That's when you noticed your palm felt slightly wet. "Can you, please, come here?"

You removed your hand from his face before stepping to his side, and looked at him, not knowing what he wanted you to do exactly. He raised his teary eyes to you and pulled you to sit on his lap straddling him before hugging you very, very tight, his face burying in your neck. You wrapped your arms around him and hugged him back.

It was hard for you to remember who he truly was, sometimes. For you, it was almost as if there were two completely different persons. On one side, there was Trafalgar D. Water Law, the dangerous pirate captain, the merciless devil fruit user, the dark and cold Surgeon of Death. And on the other side, there was Law. Your Law. The cocky, distant (although not with you) and sometimes scary, yet sweet and warm man who listened to you whenever you talked to him, who kept you safe in his arms when you felt sad and lost, who relished on your happiness and those moments when you shared some liking with him and embraced every second spent with you. Because you knew it. You knew he did. Him telling you he loved you was all that took for you to realize. It was difficult to remember they were the same person. Specially when you were used to the first one being fictitious while the second was so real.

You softly separated from him to place an affectionate kiss on his cheek. You were afraid of showing him your affection, not wanting him to misunderstand you and pointlessly give him hope, but you felt at that moment he needed it. Maybe he always needed it and he just didn't show it.

You looked at him, his tears already gone and his face back to normal. He met your eyes before pressing a kiss to your forehead, still holding you, then reached for the mouse and closed the tab where the video was. You turned in time to see a picture of his crew, one arm remaining wrapped around his neck. Apparently he had been watching them as well. You even saw pictures of the Strawhats. "I'm sorry you can't go back to your world." You said looking back at him.

"It's okay. I actually prefer the life I have here. They're the only thing missing, but I guess you can't have everything you want." He responded returning your gaze.

"Do you really like your life here?"

He nodded. "I do."

"How do you know? You haven't even started to work." You wondered unsure.

"Not everything in life is working, (Y/N)." Was his gentle answer. "This life has things my old life lacked and could never offer."

You nodded thoughtfully. "I'm glad to hear you like it here."

For some time you dived into each others eyes, a faint smile on your lips he didn't return, until you remembered you needed to buy some food. "I have to go to the supermarket." You said, standing from his lap.

"I'll go with you." He said turning to the screen to shut down the computer.

"Okay." You cheerfully accepted, walking to your room.

Law's mobile started buzzing. He took it and read the message received. It was from Esther.

'Summer is here! What's more romantic than taking a walk along the beach with your soulmate? Next plan in process! ;D'

He chuckled. Going to the beach with you sounded promising. He wondered how Esther planed to achieve that goal...
We finally start to know about the way Reader is feeling about the whole situation.

Let's hope Esther's new plan goes better than the last one  Roll Eyes
